To everyone, around the state: please identify boards and commissions in
your local governments--and state government, too--and try to get Greens on them.
Get on them yourself! Frequently, local governments find these positions
hard to fill: citizens just don't volunteer, so it should be well within our
abilities to get on them. This is the way to get experience and move up through
the ranks, to city council and county commissioner, the statehouse and
beyond!
Such boards include planning and zoning commissions (very important, since
they determine land use); environmental health; parks and rec; salary review,
etc. The City and County of Denver's website lists all its boards and
commissions, for example, and how to apply for them:
http://www.denvergov.org/Boards_and_Commissions/6133902template2jump.asp
As for state boards, information is at:
http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/govnr_dir/bc/
They are going to be harder for Greens to get appointed to, for obvious
reasons. But it never hurts to try. And let us know what you're doing!
Sunny
