Incumbent Goodtimes Wins Local Green Nod for Third Term Try

The San Miguel Greens unanimously nominated incumbent Art Goodtimes
to run for a third term as San Miguel County Commissioner at their
spring meeting yesterday at the Wilkinson Library.

“I’m proud to run on my record,” said Goodtimes. “I think the County
is in excellent shape. And, as a Green, I’ve been able to personally
advance a number of important issues, from the creation and now
continuance of the San Juans Fen Partnership, to the joint
County/Towns Recycling Task Force that I chair, to a County Green
Building program slated to begin this year on a voluntary basis.”

Goodtimes’ local nomination will be sent to the Green Party of
Colorado’s nominating convention in Fort Collins on April 24th. If
confirmed, under state minor party rules, Goodtimes will appear on
the November ballot as the Green Party candidate for the Third
District Commissioner in San Miguel County.

Local Green Party members also supported a proposal to bring the
state Green Party meeting to Telluride in the spring of 2005.

However, the local chapter members were not in favor of running a
national Green Party candidate this year.

All expressed great dissatisfaction with the current Bush
Administration. Rather than risk a spoiler role and the possibility
of helping Bush stay in office, the San Miguel Greens supported a
proposal, championed by Goodtimes, to devolve decision-making on a
national presidential candidate back down to state parties, and
instead have the party build from the bottom up – concentrating its
efforts on getting more Greens elected to local office.

In Telluride, Greens have two elected officials, Commissioner
Goodtimes and Telluride Town Councilperson Hilary White – two of just
over 200 Green officeholders nationwide.

Finally, the local decided to begin having quarterly lunch meetings,
and it was tentatively decided to host the next meeting this June and
invite the Green Building Task Force to come and discuss the projects
they’ve been working on. Date and place for that meeting will be
announced.
