GPCO Monthly Status Report - June 2004

This is the monthly status report of the activity of the GPCO State =
officers. In it, we will briefly outline the activities that have =
occurred in the previous month, and list the activities to accomplish in =
the next.=20

Please do not respond to this email on the GPCO Discuss list! If you =
have a specific question stemming from this status report, email =
directly the officer responsible for the item.=20

June Activities - Completed
-----------------------------------------

1) 2004 GPUS National Convention. - The GPCO delegates traveled to =
Milwaukee for a successful convention. Highlights of the weeks =
activities were:=20

- CSPAN gave the GPUS 3 hours of national air time by broadcasting the =
Saturday evening rally.=20
- Because of proxy voting, we were able to cast our 22 allowed votes.=20
- David Cobb and Pat LaMarche were nominated as the Green Party's =
Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates. Cobb/LaMarche earned 408 =
of 770 votes in the second round.=20
- The results of the Steering Committee election were: 2 year terms: =
Gwen Wages - Mississippi, Jody Haug - Washington, Marc Sansom - =
Illinois, 1 year terms: Gray Newman - North Carolina, Peggy Lewis - =
California, Maya O'Connor - DC, Treasurer, 2 year term: Jake Schneider, =
Steering Committee member not up for election and serving one year more =
are: Secretary Greg Gerritt - Rhode Island, Co-Chair Jo Chamberlain - =
California
- The Kinsey campaign staffed a table at the convention allowing it to =
network with Greens interested in Bob's message. I would like to thank =
the Kinsey campaign for doing this.

2) Instructions to delegates on GPUS Platform and GPUS Critique Proposal =
- I failed to generate a review and discussion of Malkan's and Butcher's =
views on the Tax sections of the proposed platform. Therefore, i had =
them send their views to the delegates for their consideration. I also =
failed to put thru Council a proposal that instructed the delegates how =
to vote on the GPUS Platform. We left it to the delegates to get the =
sense of the convention on the Platform and to vote as they saw fit. =
lannykness@comcast.net

3) Selection of a Delegation Coordinator for GPCO national delegates - =
The delegation selected Dave Chandler for this role. I would like to =
thank Dave for this extra effort he put in. Bill McCormick =
Bmccormick522@aol.com, Dave Chandler, EditorDave@msn.com

4) Interesting fundraiser - Newly weds Gay Elizabeth Houptman and Peter =
Alejandro Yribia requested instead of gifts that donations be made to =
specific charities and organizations. So Barbara Maxie donated $25 to =
the GPCO in their name! I had Brad send them a wedding card. =
Congratulations to the couple! lannykness@comcast.net, Brad Klafehn, =
bklafehn@mindspring.com

5) Council Proposals - The following proposals were acted on:

011-04 Adding 3 additional Greens as delegates, passed
012-04 Donation of $100 from the GPCO to each active State Campaign, =
passed
013-04 Electing Bruce Meyer to serve as a National Delegate at the GPUS =
National Convention, passed

July Activities - To do
--------------------------------

1) Delegate allotment: I will be submitting a Council proposal that =
outlines rules for allocating national delegates to the Presidential =
candidates per the vote taken at the State nominating convention. This =
is required for 2 reasons: A) rounding errors B) What to do if we do not =
have 22 votes (delegates and proxies) at the National Convention. I will =
submit these "allocating national delegate" rules for inclusion in the =
GPCO Procedures and Guidelines. lannykness@comcast.net

2) State Meeting / Nominating Convention minutes - Bruce McNaughton will =
be completing the official minutes from the State meetings on April =
24th. These will be posted on the GPCO website when completed. Bruce =
McNaughton brucemcn@iopener.net

3) State Meeting Platform Proposal Conference Call - I will be setting =
up a conference call for the Council to determine the sequence of events =
that occurred during presentation of the Platform proposal, to hear any =
grievances, and determine any actions. The ground rules need to be =
determined, but i intend that any registered Green may monitor the call. =
We did not complete this in June because we lacked the minutes of the =
State Meeting. lannykness@comcast.net

4) La Plata Reinstatement Proposal - Krista Batterson and Todd Cronin =
may submit a proposal to Council to reinstate the La Plata Chapter.

5) GPUS Campaign donations: The State officers need to work with the =
candidates and the GPUS to maximize any funds that the GPUS can provided =
to our candidates. Kness will be investigating this avenue. The Kinsey =
campaign is already part of the program. lannykness@comcast.net

6) Gather status of GPCO committees - I will be working to contact the =
various GPCO committees to get a roster of those involved and a status =
report of recent and future activity. This is for the SAFE, Platform, =
Bylaws, etc. committees. I feel this is important for getting the GPCO =
moving forward. The work of the GPCO really occurs in these groups. =
lannykness@comcast.net

7) Current elected officials - I will be contacting all of the current =
elected officials as a good will gesture. I hope to get feedback from =
them and see where we can work better together. lannykness@comcast.net

8) GPCO "Procedures and Guidelines" - Determine and post the most =
recently revised version to the GPCO website. lannykness@comcast.net, =
Charlie Green oldbogus@ris.net

August Activities (look ahead)
----------------------------------------

1) Growing the party: As Co-Chair, i will be submitting a proposal to =
get Council's commitment to growing the party and the formation of a =
small committee to formulate ideas on how to do this. =
lannykness@comcast.net

2) Fundraising: The State officers need to better support Bruce Meyer's =
efforts on the 20/20/20000 fundraising drive.=20

3) Quarterly conference call: I would like to have a State quarterly =
conference call. This is just to review the last 3 months, discuss any =
issues, and to consider what we need to accomplish in the next 3 months. =

Please send directly to me any comments / ideas about the content and =
format of this status report.=20

Thanks.

Lanny Kness
