After having been reassured by long term members of the Green Party that it
is OK for a relative newcomer like myself to send out things like this, I would
like to make a couple of announcements. On February 16th, an interview that
I recently recorded on the subject of Colorado's standardized testing program,
CSAP, will be broadcast on KGNU, 88.5 FM in Boulder and 1390 AM in Denver, as
part of their morning magazine, broadcast time approximately 800-815. That
interview was scheduled in conjunction with my appearance at Left Hand Books,
1200 Pearl Street in Boulder, on 2/21 at 7:00 PM. I will speak on the CSAP and
the opposition to it being organized by the Coalition for Better Education,
http://www.thecbe.org/.

I urge you to listen and attend if at all possible for two reasons. First,
this is an issue that the Denver/Jeffco Green Party has already generously
supported. Dave Chandler organized a forum on the subject last year and will be
organizing another one next month. Check his website, dave@davechandler.us,
for details.

Second, this is an issue which allows us to clearly delineate the difference
between ourselves and either the Democrat or Republican wings of the
"Republocratic" Party. As on so many other issues, they are marching in lockstep in
terms of their support for high stakes standardized testing. In the mean time,
there is an ever growing grassroots opposition to such testing, both in
Colorado and nationwide. This is potentially an enormously powerful issue through
which the Green Party could gain new activists and voters. In support of
opposition to CSAP, I will also have an article later this week in the "Rocky
Mountain News" and on 2/16 in the "North Denver Tribune".

On the issue of testing, as with many other issues like health care and
illegal immigration, the citizens of Colorado are looking for new perspectives. I
recently attended a community forum hosted by my state representative, Michael
Garcia, against whom I hope to run in the fall, and my state senator, Bob
Hagedorn. Everyone in the audience wished to discuss the immigration issue. They
were very unsatisfied with the tap dancing around it provided by the the two
Democrats. Neither wing of the "Republocratic" Party can honestly discuss the
root cause of the problem, NAFTA, a treaty supported by their members in the
Congress and lobbied for and signed by Bill Clinton. There is a great opening
on this issue, as with high stakes standardized testing, for both the state
and national Green parties.

I hope to see you all in Denver on May 13th for the state convention. It is
being hosted this year by the Arapahoe County Green Party of which I am the
secretary. In the spirit of that hospitality, let me offer to personally host
some of you, i.e. we can probably sleep three or four people at my house.

Tim Babbidge
Secretary, Arapahoe County Green Party
Candidate, AD 42
Treasurer, Coalition for Better Education
